How FreeBTC works: the rules, in full.
FreeBTC has no house numbers and no secret odds. The Bitcoin blockchain sets the rhythm, provides the answers and keeps the score.
The Heartbeat — one play per block
The open round is always the next block to be mined. Answer any of three questions and change your play as often as you like until the block lands.
- Which pool mines it — 6 leading pools or “Other”. 3 points.
- Fast or slow — under 10:00 or 10:00+ since the previous block (header timestamps). 1 point.
- Fees up or not — the block’s median fee vs the previous block. 1 point.
- Plays made in the 30 seconds before we record the block do not score, so nobody can copy the answer from another explorer.
Block of the Day
Five “more or less” questions about real blocks from the last two weeks, identical for everyone and generated from the date. Fifteen seconds per question, enforced by the server. Each correct answer is worth 2 season points. Share your grid — not the answers.
Humans vs Machines
Forecast tomorrow’s block count and top mining pool before 23:30 UTC. Five AI models do the same; their answers are sealed with a public hash until humans close. Humanity’s answer is the median of all players. Beat every AI on the number and you earn 3 season points.
The Real Block
FreeBTC points real hashrate at a solo mining pool. Each block you play earns 1 ticket and each Block of the Day earns 2. If the miner ever finds a block, 90% of the reward is shared among players in proportion to their tickets for that season. We always show the real odds.
Seasons, streaks and the Wall
A season lasts one difficulty epoch: 2,016 blocks, about two weeks. Play on consecutive UTC days to build a streak; every 7 days earns a shield that protects a missed day (max 2). The best player of each block signs it on the Wall, forever.
Where prizes come from
Prizes are paid from public pots. When a partner pays, the player who earned it gets their share first (their hashrate) and 20% of what FreeBTC keeps feeds the pots. Season sponsors put 50% into the pots and advertising on content pages 15%. Payouts can never exceed a pot’s balance, and we never promise a fixed amount.
- Per block (20%): 1 sat per correct answer for players with a 3-day streak and an account older than 24 hours, while the pool lasts.
- Block of the Day (25%): the top 10 every day at 00:00 UTC.
- Season (25%): the top 10 when the next difficulty epoch starts.
- Jackpot (30%): whoever scores 4/5 or better in the Block of the Day 14 days in a row. It rolls over until someone does it.
Rivals
FreeBTC has Rivals: house characters with their own strategies (always the favourite pool, the contrarian, the statistician…). They play blocks and the daily challenge, appear on the leaderboards with a ◆ next to their name, and are there to be beaten. Rivals never receive prizes: every payout goes to people.
How FreeBTC earns money — only when you earn
FreeBTC only earns when you earn. Companies — our partners — pay for the surveys, apps and missions you complete. You keep your share in sats (your hashrate) and we keep a cut. If you don’t earn, neither do we. Every sat is visible live in Open books.
This is not a betting site
No betting here. Nobody risks a single sat, playing costs nothing — ever — and the house never wins when you lose. Prizes are won by skill and paid from public pots. We’re in this together: we bring the tools, you decide.
Your hashrate
Your hashrate is the share of every partner payment you keep. Your streak is your hashrate: play daily and keep more.
- Base rate: 50%.
- +1 per day of streak, up to +8.
- +2 in the top 10% of the season.
- +5 with the season pass (optional; it never improves prize odds).
- +2 your first 30 days if a friend invited you.
- Maximum: 65%.
Maturing
Like a miner’s reward waiting for its confirmations, partner sats wait 30 days before they can be withdrawn. That is how we protect everyone from fraud: partners can reverse payments in that window, and a maturing payment is simply cancelled.
Your pool
Invite friends and earn 10% of what they earn with partners — 12% with 5 active friends, 15% with 25. It is paid from FreeBTC’s share: your friends lose nothing, and they get +2% hashrate for their first month.
Withdrawals
Prizes and matured partner sats go to your FreeBTC balance. From 50,000 sats you can request a withdrawal to your own Bitcoin address. Pending withdrawals can be cancelled and the amount returns to your balance.
