Chartle: Guess the Bitcoin chart
A real Bitcoin price chart. Which year is it?
How to play
- Five rounds a day, the same charts for everyone. Each chart is a real 13-week window (about 90 days) of BTC/USD, one close per week, shown as % change from its first point.
- Pick a year from 2011 to last year. Every round comes from a different year, and each window sits inside a single calendar year.
- Each round: exact year 5 points, one year off 3, two years off 1, further off 0. The maximum is 25.
- Season points: 20 or more earns 3, 13 or more earns 2, 7 or more earns 1. A perfect 25 also earns a badge.
- Ties on the leaderboard are broken by total time.
About this game
Every day Chartle picks five real stretches of Bitcoin’s price history, each about 90 days long, and hides the prices. You only see the shape — how far it climbed and how hard it fell, as a percentage from the first point. Your job is to name the year.
Bubbles, crashes, halvings and long sideways summers each leave their own fingerprint. After every guess you see the real dates, the prices and what was going on at the time, so each round doubles as a short Bitcoin history lesson.
Is Chartle free?
Yes. Like every FreeBTC game it costs nothing to play, and good results add season points.
Why one point per week?
Our price history for the early years has one price per week, so every chart uses weekly closes. That way the level of detail never gives the year away.
Any tips?
Look at the size of the moves. In the early years swings of 100% in a few weeks were normal; in recent years the same shapes come with much smaller percentages.
When do the charts change?
At 00:00 UTC every day. The price data is public BTC/USD history from mempool.space.
